The 10th International Symposium on Rock Fragmentation by Blasting “FRAGBLAST 10” is scheduled to be held in New Delhi, during November 24 - 29, 2012. The Fragblast Symposia represent the most important event in disseminating the latest advances in the science and technology of rock fragmentation by blasting and other related means. Fragblast conferences have since inception eminently served the blasting community with an unparalleled combination of scientific contributions, technical innovations, and practical applications. This has helped meld, in a single forum, researchers and practitioners engaged in this activity worldwide.

The first symposium was held in Sweden in 1983 and since then it has been convened at intervals of 3 - 4 years at different locations around the world. These locations, selected by a standing International Committee from among several competing submissions, are chosen on the basis of prominence of mining activities and R&D initiatives of the host country.

The preceding two symposia were held in Santiago, Chile in 2006, and Granada, Spain in 2009. It is now the privilege of India to host the Fragblast10 Symposium, but only for the second time in Asia. The current Symposium is being organized by the Central Institute of Mining & Fuel Research (CIMFR), a leading R&D Institution in India in these subjects. CIMFR is a constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) which is an autonomous body of the Government of India. An ensemble of 37 state-of-the art institutes, CSIR today is amongst the foremost publicly funded scientific and industrial research organizations in the world.

India is witnessing a burgeoning industrial growth in all sectors and particularly in the field of mineral industry. It is anticipated that over 800 delegates will attend the main event and the pre - Symposium Workshops. The Workshops will be focused primarily on practitioners to keep them abreast of the latest developments in the subject.

The Symposium will be held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. A regular transport facility between selected hotels and the Symposium venue shall be made available to all delegates. The historic city of New Delhi represents the quintessence of India, as its history is intimately tied to the history of the country itself. It has been the de-facto capital of the country at one time or another for over 1000 years. Its many-layered history is to be seen everywhere through its numerous ancient to modern monuments and places of historical importance. Being the capital city of the country, it also boasts the finest in terms of cuisine, textiles, handicrafts and other artistic objects from every region of the country. All the major world airlines fly to Delhi, which is also well - connected with the rest of the country by rail and air.

An exciting and highly attractive program for spouses has been planned in addition to the post-symposium tours to selected mine sites and places of historical importance nearby. The month of November is ideal in terms of climate in Delhi, having average min. and max. temperature around 10 & 25 degree Celsius respectively and with little prospects of rain.

A wide range of hotels with price varying from economy to luxury are available in Delhi. The details of hotels and other accommodations shall be made available shortly.
